Challenges of a mature Russian field's redevelopment – Advantages and disadvantages of quick-look geologic modeling

Abstract Due to the global oil price crisis in 2014, one of MOL's preventive/reactive measures was identify geologically or commercially risky elements within their portfolio. This involved reevaluation all geologic data from Field A Volga-Urals Basin. In re-evaluating A, several unexpected challenges, problems and pitfalls were faced by interdisciplinary team performing task building a new database, quality checking, interpreting dating back 1947. To overcome these challenges related this mature field, approaches fit-for-purpose methods required order achieve overall goal obtaining reliable estimation remaining hydrocarbon potential. first phase first-pass 3D model constructed, along with wrangling, cleaning 70 years subsurface data. paper focuses on main evaluating reevaluating reservoir aspects field.
